December 2017, I decided to make a cutting board for my parents. I bought small boards, then used a hand plane, several chisels and sandpaper (on flat surface) to ensure the edges were straight. Then, I glued them all together. Unfortunately, after gluing there was a lot of variation in heights between the boards, so I used the plane and chisels to flatten the entire assembly, finishing with sandpaper. This was more difficult than expected, because several areas had contiguous woods of very different hardness (such as mahogany next to maple). Before the final finishing passes with sandpaper I used a razor saw to even out the ends of the boards.
The cutting board is “sealed” with oil.
